GRETA is pleased to be the host CTA for the Mixed Doubles State Championships September 5-8, 2024 and we are very grateful for our tennis community support. Volunteers are needed to welcome 1,200+ players from around the state who will be competing on courts at 8 facilities in our area, 57 courts each day.
USTA North Carolina will provide training for all volunteers via email. The training will consist of written and video components. Volunteers are REQUIRED to review all training materials before volunteering for the event.
Please click on the button below to sign up for one or more shifts at various host facilities for the following positions. (Volunteers must be at least 18 yrs old.)
**Each volunteer needs to sign-up individually, with his/her own cell # and email address, in order to receive important updates, as well as your volunteer t-shirt and name badge. Please make sure the email address you have in the SignUp Genius is up-to-date and one that you check regularly
- Lead Site Coordinator – Primary contact for site (club member, area resident) This person will be the goto contact for the site throughout the weekend for any issues and/or last minute needs. They will need to be accessible but not at the site the entire time.
- Site Desk Volunteers – ensure teams are checked-in at match location and results are sent to Tournament Headquarters. See complete descriptions below.
- Site Desk Floater Volunteers – these volunteers will be set to take over should weather or other issues cause delays to the daily schedule. They will relieve afternoon site desk coordinators or assist with transitions to indoor facilities in the event of rain.
- Operations Volunteers – assist site coordinators in daily set-up & take-down of venues, purchase or collect ice from venue ice maker and replenish water & ice as needed.
- Court Helpers – sweep courts/lines during break in schedule. Address any issues related to court conditions such as net adjustments and ensuring courts are free of debris.
**PLEASE NOTE: Once schedules are completed, it may turn out that some slots are not needed. In that case, volunteers may be asked to work another site or time slot.
PICK-UP for VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers should plan to pick up their t-shirts & name tags at Spencer Love Tennis Center, unless other arrangements have been made with your site’s Facility Manager. Volunteer pick-up Wednesday, September 3pm – 6pm at Spencer Love.
Site Desk Responsibilities:
Please review volunteer responsibilities:
- Review all volunteer training materials
- Be sure site box and balls are on site
- Be a friendly, welcoming presence at the site
- Check-in teams for scheduled matches
- Assign courts for scheduled matches using the mobile app
- Open and hand out balls to home team players
- Enforce 5-minute warm up
- Collect balls at the end of the match
- Communicate with the Tournament Director about rain/weather delays
- Communicate with the Tournament Referee if there is a no-show, default, rules questions, etc.
- Communicate with the Tournament Referee in the event of any on-court issues or grievances
- Communicate with the designated Facility Manager volunteer regarding any issues with site set-up or when running low on provisions
- Assist designated Facility Manager volunteer with clean up at end of day.
- Please note that 2nd shift Site Desk volunteers need to stay until last matches are completed at the end of the day – matches may run past 5:30pm
